

Our client, the securities services arm of one of the world's leading financial organisations is looking to recruit a senior business development professional to spearhead growth of their business across Continental Europe. This newly created role will be based in Luxembourg and will focus on acquiring new business from asset managers across Europe.
This job is all about new business origination; doing significant new deals with new clients. Growing business through current clients is someone else's responsibility!
• growing sales, market share and profitability of the business, with a focus on UCITs through Continental European asset managers and ensuring that all is delivered to plan
• focusing exclusively on prospective new clients to generate business in line with sales revenue targets
• building a network of professional influencers - lawyers, tax advisers, accountants etc., to raise market profile and reputation and to generate business leads
• preparing and participating in external/internal presentations to prospective clients and key influencers in the Continental European market
• maintaining a strong working relationship with other departments, in particular, client relationship management (CRM), fund administration, new product development (NPD), transfer agency, legal and IT, to ensure that clients' needs are best met
• ensuring an up to the minute, in depth understanding of the Continental European market for products, and being seen by the market as a real asset to the organisation
• selling the product/service range, being a constant source of new ideas, and suggesting improvements to the company's market offering
• helping to define a balanced market and sales strategy, to position the business for growth opportunities and developing/growing new markets, where appropriate
• working with other European business development teams to close business on a sector wide basis and to provide direction, mentoring and coaching of others involved in the sales process.
• a mature well rounded, focused sales professional, with a demonstrable track record, able to identify, target and convert major prospects, both alone and as part of a coordinated sales effort
• business graduate (MBA would be an advantage) with a minimum of 10 years' experience in a funds related environment, at least three of which must have been in a senior client facing role
• European minded, familiar with the relevant markets, and comfortable dealing with a broad variety of professionally demanding senior level contacts
• an energetic, results orientated, self starter. Although independently minded, able to function effectively as a key member of a business team, and motivated by the best interests of the business
• strong desire to lead the sales effort from the front, and keen to achieve results. Able and willing to bring in big accounts personally
• relationship minded with excellent marketing and inter-personal skills, and well developed communication skills, both verbal and written
• solution oriented, truly client-centric, able to understand and identify with the specific product/service needs of clients and prospects
• detailed understanding of investment accounting, investment valuations, custody and investor services combined with deep product knowledge of alternative and traditional investment vehicles
• risk averse, with a good understanding of product/market risks and of risk management and mitigation techniques
• complete fluency in English is a given, French and/or German preferred and other EU languages a benefit.

Due to the retirement of the current CEO, late 2010, we are looking for an exceptional candidate to take over this challenging role, helping to build the business base further under its new owners.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will strengthen the Group's position as a leading metals trading and distribution company at the forefront of the industry, develop further the group's business concept and business models, and maximise profitability. At least initially the role will combine the functions of CEO and Commercial Director. This combination role is crucial for the foreseeable future, to ensure that the new business plan works.
• develop business models that maximise the value of the trading and distribution activities
• create a Strategic Plan which maximises shareholder value consistent with sustainable business practices and ensure that any such plan is successfully implemented
• identify and develop new business opportunities:
o expand product range and/or market presence
o partnerships and strategic alliances
o investment opportunities
• manage and develop strategic customer and supplier relations
• evolve the organisation to meet Group objectives and operational focus
• promote a culture that reflects the Group's values, encourages good performance and rewards productivity
• develop an effective commercial infrastructure and provide support and coaching to commercial staff
• maintain excellent relationships with external stakeholders like financial institutions, suppliers and customers
• allocation of capital resources and management of trade-offs in allocating resources
• overseeing staff in developing annual budgets to support operating plans
• on-going liaison with the Board of Directors on performance against plan
• ensuring that the appropriate systems and controls are in place to minimise risk.
• minimum 10 years' managerial experience in raw materials
• minimum five years' experience dealing with a board of directors and committees
• strong business management, planning and financial oversight experience
• excellent commercial skills, able to influence clients and prospects
• experience in change management, strategy definition and new business models
• adept at managing and supervising a staff team
• able to multi-task and to work effectively in a fast paced office environment
• solid problem solving and mediation skills
• competent at sharing skills and knowledge with others
• able to build alliances and partnerships
• truly international mindset
• 100% fluent in English. French and/or German would be an advantage.
